Semen Analysis
Semen analysis is performed on-site, standardized to WHO 2010 criteria. In addition, Novavita is one of the few MSP accredited laboratories in Vancouver to provide access to a clean, private facility for on-site semen collection, allowing rapid analysis. When specimens are collected remotely then transported to the lab, inaccuracies in results may occur due to delays from specimen transportation. Producing the specimen on-site ensures a timely analysis and accurate results.
For patients who wish to collect the specimen at home, that option is available, but it is strongly recommended that the specimen is delivered to the laboratory within 30 minutes.
When requested by a BC physician, the cost of the semen analysis is covered by MSP. For blood work, please call the laboratory to book an appointment.
BOOKING TIMES
We have a limited number of appointments per day for semen analysis. Appointments are required for specimen collection on-site or drop-off. Our appointments are available Monday to Friday at 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm or 2 pm. New drop off appointments are available Tues-Fri at 9am starting July 4th, 2023!
Please bring your care card and requisition from the physician.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SEMEN ANALYSIS
Please read the instructions for semen analysis before booking your appointment. Patients without a valid personal health number (PHN) or care card number will have to pay for the test upon arrival. If you are not an Olive Fertility Clinic patient, please bring a requisition from your physician. Patients without requisitions from a BC physician will be charged for the semen analysis. Sterile containers are available at Novavita Laboratory or any Lifelabs' location for drop-off specimens.

For sperm DNA fragmentation testing, please call us to book your appointment. The test can be booked on Monday or Tuesday at 12pm only.
NOTE: Do not book another bloodwork appointment. The semen analysis appointment will include the collection of infectious disease bloodwork ordered by Olive Fertility physicians.
